[Lt. Maverick]

Many Steam users don't realize that they can set a custom Nickname in Steam so others can see it instead of the often confusing Steam username they chose when they signed up for Steam. Without a Nickname, users simply see the original Steam Username that was picked.

Using a Nickname makes it much easier for your friends to find you in their friends lists. It also makes it so you can put a tag like "BOOM!" next to your game alias like "BOOM! Lt. Maverick (Admin)" instead of just using your username like "scso1502". You can't change your Steam Friends username you original setup, so using a nickname is the only way around this.

 There are 2 easy ways to set a Nickname.

First Way:

1. Start Steam

2. Open your friends list

3. Find your name at the top of your friends list.

4. Click the drop-down menu arrow at the end of your name and choose "Set Friends name"

5. Once there, edit your nickname and click "OK"


Second Way:

1. Start Steam

2. Right-click on the Steam system tray icon at the bottom right corner of your screen and choose "Settings"

3. Click the "Friends" tab. Once there, edit your nickname and click "OK"


That should do it.
