1. Under normal conditions, how many computers connect to your Internet connection?

2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

3. Do you run any file sharing services in the background like Limewire or Bit-Torrent?

4. How long has this problem been going on? (Estimate the number of days as close as possible)

5. Have you made any changes to your PC that might have brought this on?

6. Are any other functions or games on your PC suffering from this problem? If so what and how?

7. Do you run virus protection and if so, which one?

8. How long do the spikes typicially last when they occur time and how often so they happen? Are they occurring on a regular basis so you know when to expect them?

9. Are there any other PCs in the home that are affected by this that you are aware of?

10. Is your Internet connection wired or wireless?

If you don't know the answers to any of the above, then just say "I don't know" rather than guessing. Not knowing means we can figure it our, guessing and being wrong will make our job harder.

Knowing the above will further assist me in resolving this with you.

Angry,

We have no problem at all helping you out with this stuff. That's part of why we're here. But you're being lazy if you don't reply with the answers to ALL the questions posted in Krysis' list. Saying "Don't know" is useless to someone trying to help you, especially when the questions are critical and outline the problem's specific nature like #8 does.

Those questions are VERY IMPORTANT and very basic. You can figure them out easily by taking a few minutes to do the research. We can't help you if you don't take the time to do the simple research for us. In the meantime, here are some things you can try that may or may not work based upon the info you provided.  Test your PC after each one and see if it's fixed. Only do one at a time so we know what was causing it.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS EXACTLY AND DON'T BE TOO LAZY TO READ THIS! GO OVER THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF EACH STEP BEFORE BEGINNING THE PROCESS SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING. DON'T BE A LADY READER!

STEP 1

A. Power off your PC,
B. Unplug your Internet modem (and wireless hub if you have one) and leave off for 30 seconds.
C. Plug your Internet modem back in.
D. Once then Internet modem's fully up and working, plug in you wireless hub if you have one
E. Turn on you PC and test your connection in a game.

If the above fixed your problem. stop here and report back that it's fixed. If it didn't, Go to the next step.

STEP 2

THE BELOW OUTLINE IS FOR A MACHINE RUNNING THE WINDOWS XP OPERATING SYSTEM. VISTA AND WINDOWS 7 HAVE ALMOST IDENTICAL RESTORE STEP AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT EASILY IF YOU REVIEW THE BELOW STEPS.

A. CLICK "START" --> "HELP AND SUPPORT"

B. Choose "Undo changes to your computer using System Restore"

C. Choose "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click "NEXT"

D. Select a date in BOLD from the calendar that is BEFOREthe date you started having problems. For example: since you started having in problems on or after February 16th, choose a date like February 10th. It is best to choose a date that has a "Restore Point". A restore point is done by Windows  on a regular basis. Restore points are automatic backup points that you can go back to so you can restore your PC if problems like yours start happening. It works perfectly in almost every occasion and I've done it dozen's of times.

E. Once you've selected a date, click "NEXT" to start the restore process.

Your PC will reboot a few times and return to normal. When it's all done restoring, your PC should be returned to the state it was in on the date you restored it back to.

If you still have problems, try restoring it back to an earlier date perhaps in early January. It's best if you choose a date far enough back the first time so you can avoid the additional work of restoring back it again using another date.

**NOTE - Restoring your PC like this will remove any software settings you made to your PC, including installing any new programs and reset it back to what you had on the date you selected to restore it to. This means you will need to reinstall any software you loaded after the restore date you choose. YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA FILES! This only restores and deletes programs. Your documents will not be touched. You can also undo the restore if needed.

If the above fixed your problem. stop here and report back that it's fixed. If it didn't, Go to the next step.

A last note. GET FREAKING VIRUS PROTECTION!!!! ANYONE RUNNING A PC WITHOUT IT IS ASKING FOR TROUBLE. WITH ALL THE GOOD FREE PRODUCTS OUT THERE, THERE'S SIMPLY NO EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING VIRUS PROTECTION! I'M SERIOUS MAN, YOUR BLOWING THIS ONE!

PLEASE ONLY USE THIS STEP IF NOTHING ELSE WORKS. IT'S A BIT DRASTIC, BUT IT'S A GUARANTEED FIX FOR ALL PC PROBLEMS - READ ON....

STEP 3

A. Shutdown your PC
B. Once the PC is totally off, unplug all the cables.
C. Carefully place it on top of a desk where you can work on it.
D. Get some Windex and paper towels and clean the exterior of the case thoroughly so it looks like new.
E. Carry the PC to the highest room in your home
F. Open the window of said highest room
G. Remove screen from said window
H. Look out and below highest room's window and make sure no one is standing outside
I. Place PC on edge of window frame and yell out at the top of your lungs "EFFF THIS LAG!!!!"
J. Push PC out of window and watch joyfully as it hit's the ground below and disintegrates
K. Replace screen
L. Close window to save heat
M. Return to bedroom
N. Sit in corner rocking back and forth
O. Wait for police to arrive and check you out

This final step will have surely fixed your problem because you no longer have a PC anyway.

Thinking of you fondly,

It's your Internet connection. I see you connecting and disconnecting constantly. Call your ISP and report the problem and check your wireless router.

It's better much a optimizer for your system, cleans it, turns un-needed stuff off etc etc.
