Steam is not booting up like it's supposed to at start-up, and when I try to run it from the desktop icon or even from My Computer, all it does is flash the hourglass then it does nothing. Now, what's especially weird is that when I open the Task Manager, I see Steam running! Also, when I try to start a Steam game (CS: Source, 1.6, etc.), it does the same thing: flashes an hourglass next to cursor, then acts like I never clicked on anything. Now this may not be specific to Steam, because when I plugged in my iPod to the computer, iTunes did not automatically come up like it's supposed to, but when I opened the Task Manager, you guessed it, it said it was running. Obviously a virus of some kind, but I don't have the technical machismo to figure out what's wrong by myself. Bottom line:

Start by running Spybot Search and Destroy.  Then run Ad-Aware.
Also run an antivirus.  One of my free favorites is ClamAV.

If that doesn't work let me know.  The next step is probably HijackThis.

Jojo, I ran SpyBot, Ad-Aware Professional, and my Norton AntiVirus, and still nothing.

Alright, after an entire afternoon of running ten different virus scans and rebooting in Safe Mode more times than I could count, I've fixed the problem. Well, you guys fixed the problem. Thanks a million. Again.
